Intra-Asia Awards

I need to book a NRT-BKK-HKG ticket this August. I bave mileage on all the major programs, except DL. From what I can tell, the ticket will cost 40k miles on AA, 25k miles on CO, 20k miles on NW, and 20k miles on UA. However, after a few tries, there seems to be little availability into BKK. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

NRT-BKK is always a difficult segment to redeem awards on US carriers.

If you can afford to burn more miles, you could try to get a partner award, especially with *.

If all else fails, consider getting a seat on the less popular NRT-SIN route, and buying a cheap SIN-BKK ticket, a route with wide-open competition.

P.S: I take it you want an open-jaws ticket, as intra-Asia stopovers are not allowed at least on NW and UA, IIRC.

Are you looking for a stopover on your Intra-Asia award? If so, then that would rule out NW miles.

I already have a JFK-NRT/HKG-JFK ticket. I need to get from NRT to HKG with a few days stop in BKK.

One possibilty to explore is a NW ticket roundtrip NRT-BKK-NRT using partners via HKG.

I dont know if NW does NRT-HKG but I am sure JAL or JAS do, and then from HKG to BKK you can use Kenya Airways (also a NW partner), on the return, get off in HKG and cancel your last segment to BKK...

The proposed routing is an open jaw, which NW most certainly permits. Unfortunately, NW doesn't fly HKG-BKK, but you might be able to use MH on that segment. I redeem NW miles in Asia fairly regularly, and have never had any trouble; the trick is to use an Asian site when checking availability.

UA won't be of much use either also because of the BKK-HKG segment. You could use UA miles on TG, but that would run you 40K miles per the *A chart.

The same goes for OW.

Also, for the person who inquired about stopovers on intra-Asia awards, I know JL allows them and would be willing to guess that many other carriers do as well.
