Transfer miles . . .

My primary airline is NW, but I have several thousand "stray" miles in various airlines (American, Delta, Contental and United. I had heard somewhere, that one could transfer miles from an airline to a hotel club, like Priority Club, then transfer from Priority to NW. All for a cost I suppose, but can it be done?
