Icelandair used to participate in Northwest World Perks. Now, I am uncertain on which other airlines I can earn frequent flyer miles when flying Icelandair. I know of SAS, any domestic airlines???

I don't know of any domestic airlines that have Icelandair as a mileage partner.

A quick peak at "mileage finder" at Smarterliving.com shows that they don't have any agreement with other airlines.

It could be wrong, I guess. Checking their website could be a second way to confirm, but that is probably enough to know that they don't.

In the late 90s, I flew them every month or so between Keflav�k and BWI. At that time:
1. The only way to signup as a frequent flyer was to fill out a form, in Iceland (none were to be had at BWI)
2. They had no FF partners or affiliates
3. The only other passenger airline that flew to Keflav�k was SAS (you can still get Icelandair miles for SAS flights). [A colleague caused a stir by hitching a ride on a Canadian cargo plane from somewhere in Canada into Keflav�k.]
4. You could not get assigned seating until you got to the airport.

Hopefully, #4, above, has changed.

There is a superb book that provides a detailed tour guide to Iceland. When I return home this weekend, I'll post its name and publisher - I highly recommend it.

I used it when I and a colleague drove around the ring road on the longest day of the year (1400 kilometers, all in daylight. Our most frequently sighted living creature (besides gnats) was sheep - its pretty deserted for most of the way around.

Just out of curiosity, when was this? I don't see any US airline partners these days for their FF program as understood from their website.

I took Icelandair a couple months ago roundtrip BWI-KEF, and I searched desperately for an airline partner to credit it to. Alas, I found none. And I couldn't get a seat assignment before arriving at the airport. But boy did those flight attendants make up for it...

WN had a connection through BWI with Iceland Air some time ago. TW gave FF miles for Iceland Air before their demise.

Whenever I have flown Icelandic, I have earned miles on my SAS Frequent Flyer program. Although it has been nearly 3 years since I have done so, I assume you still can get the SAS miles. SAS, fyi, is a member of the Star Alliance.

Skyteam, as I understand it, they are partnered with Amtrak's Guest Rewards. I am a member of both those programs and that is how I know.

The best strategy is probaly going to be get miles into Amtrak and transfer to United or Continental on a 1/1 basis and I think it is a 5K minimum.
