I would definitely say Emirates. I am able to buy really good Business/First (usually Business as low as full-fare Y or just 10% above) fares on Emirates through "ethnic" travel agents to DXB, DEL, BOM from London. And almost always I have had a choice of AA, UA and Virgin across the Atlantic. I usually pick AA to LHR since I am Executive Platinum with them. I get my EK flights posted to UA and have never had a problem with the miles not showing up.</font>

1) YOu will not get any EQMs on UA Mileage Plus for flying EK. I'd check pretty carefully into other mileage plans on other carriers, as I suspect its the same on most of them. You will, however, get miles.
2) EK is one of the few carriers that configure their 777s 3-4-3 across in Y. UA, BA, AA, others I have seen 3-3-3 or most often 2-5-2. So, EK squeezes an extra seat into each row of Y. Pretty scary. But not a big deal if you are 4' 9" 120 lbs.

LH's own program is also a good possibility. I joined them last year specifically for international travel beyond Europe, and I've been very impressed. I believe they allow you to upgrade on every fare class, though don't quote me on that.
