I have flown Sri Lankan and you cannot get miles in pretty much any other program except the Emirates one. If you are member of the Sri Lankan FF program you can earn miles on UA/CO/DL/BA/SQ flights.

It is the metal that you fly that matters and you flying on Emirates metal, you should be able to earn Emirates/Sri Lankan miles. For the US based airlines' FF programs, Emirates is listed as a partner for Delta/Continental & United, and so you should be able to ean the respective miles, but be aware of the fine print& the booking class. Also the Skyrewrads page at emirates.com lists BA/Singapore etc as earning partners, and so the reverse 'might' also be true, so check, depending on what program you want to earn miles.

Sri Lankan has a funny system. It will accept miles if you travel on SQ, UAL, but not the other way round.
So if you travel on Sri Lankan you can only get miles on Sri Lankan or Emirates (I think).
But if you travel on any others such as SQ,UA, etc you can get miles on Sri Lankan.
Sri Lankan is kind of like a step childof emirates - you get some benefits but not all :-)
The frequent flyer program (skywards) I believe belongs to Emirates actually and Sri Lankan is given the privilege of its passengers using the same program.

Thanks for the info.
Due to the huge difference between booking on Emirates and Sri Lankan(for the same flights -ie Double)we have went with the cheaper option(well it is our honeymoon!).
The details are UL2556 DXB to MLE on Emirates 556 in L Class.
RTN on UL 104 MLE to CMB and UL2349 CMB to DXB on Emirates 349 in L Class.
We are members in BA,UA,CO,AA and VS FF programs if it is possible for credit on any of these carriers programs.
Cheers
