upgrade question

Long-time listener, first-time caller, enjoy the show so I'll keep it brief...

I'm a current NW silver elite (platinum by end of year... can't wait!) and want to upgrade myself and friend (no elite status) on a trip next week using the new one-way segment upgrade certs, which are *supposedly* transferable.

My question: Will NW allow me to upgrade us both (space permitting) if I use two certificates?? Or is there some rule unwritten that prohibits silver elites from signing over coupons for persons on the same flight?? (I can't see why they wouldn't allow this - I'd essentially be giving up two coupons for two upgrades.)

Any comments much appreciated.
