While I can't comment on Copa, TACA isn't all that bad in the air or at the airport usually but the phone agents vary greatly from mediocre and incompentent to outright telling mistruths.
The usability of taca.come is better for me than lan.com and when I have called their helpline, it took three calls to get the booking corrected.
I would not hesitate to fly TACA at all, the miles posting to UA Mileage Plus were a bonus as well - once they posted properly.

Lan is now promoting their "only nonstop between SFO and South America" so starting July 1st, the new SFO-LIM could be a good option...

I have really enjoyed my flights on LAN, have not used Taca yet. My last trip on LAN was on a 767 from MIA to EZE, had two seats to myself in economy, watched Garden State twice, great alcohol service. NB was hit and miss, was on an A340 from EZE to SCL which was great. My seat SCL to MIA was too near the restroom and did not recline, also the overhead light had an issue and would not turn off. Flight attendant attempted to rectify with no luck.
Also keep in mind fares are cheaper on Lan.com when you do it in the spanish version, sometimes very significantly cheaper!
