Point / Mile Conversion Tables?

Just curious . . . Has anyone on FT ever put together a conversion rate table to show equivalencies of different kinds of loyalty programs?

I started one myself, for all the accounts in which I have points (airline, credit card, hotel, etc) but ran out of steam before I finished. If a complete grid already exists, I didn't want to redouble the effort - God forbid I should waste any time obsessing over travel programs!!

As far as I know, it has never been done in any sort of comprehensive fashion. Perhaps if you post what you have done, others will post what they know and out of the complete thread a universal conversion chart may appear.

Of course no one here obsesses over travel programs. We're all much too well balanced for that

Can anyone out there tell me how to post a Word Table or Excel spreadsheet? I can't seem to get it in here. Don't know how else to do it. If someone has a personal website where I could post it, then I could just post the hyperlink here perhaps??

Go back and edit your original thread... suddenly a box appears asking you if you want to upload or attach a file. Check that box and upload away. Kind of confusing but it works.

If you want to experience good customer service from an airline forget Air Canada and try CanJet or WestJet

Can you find a export as html or text option or save as html or text option in your version of word and/or excell? if so that might be best to upload as then people on non-MS systems and that do not have these programs can still read the information.

I do second the request for HTML format. You can get free upload area from a lot of website providers and post a link to the file. Otherwise, the files get buried with the thread. A link is easy to repost. Of course, that puts more burden on the poster (you).

I've been looking into working on this for some time.. I have a very basic C/C++ program I might be willing to post. It mainly does conversions between Hilton/Diners to airlines. Need a webspace and conversion to XML/Javascript, might be able to do an online converter.

This has been something I've pondered as well, though kept in a spreadsheet + back-of-the-eyelids "form". Hauteboy, if you happen to be taking suggestions re: developing an app for such, an "ideal" form I had in mind includes a breakdown of codeshare options, as well (which adds to the complexity, I realize, but allows a more comprehensive assessment of options as well as associated value). In addition, for conversion options that "end" with, for example, a points-based redemption for flights, inclusion of a comparison to the original carriers' respective redemption levels would be nice.

I'm sure we can think of more things to complicate the heck out this.

This isn't exactly related, but I'm curious to know whether anyone has used the following utility, & if so, what are your thoughts?

OK. Perhaps I should just ask it this way, since I already have the foundation built.

I'll start with American Airlines. . .
1000 AA Miles =
______ Alaska Air Mile
______ American Express Points
______ Continental Airlines
______ Delta
_2000_ Diners Club
_1000_ Hilton HHonors
______ Marriott Rewards
______ My Points
______ Northwest
______ Qantas
______ Starwood
______ United Airlines

After about 8 more messages, we'll have this all completed. I've tried getting it all from the websites, but it's not as easy as one would think. Hilton is the only program that really spells it out.

Thanks for the help. When we get this finished, then I'll have someone help me figure out how to post it to a website. Or perhaps Randy will just put it on his for us.

Reward Cafe has pretty much what we are looking for, but it is limited in programs. For example, there is no Amtrak. Also, I don't know how up-to-date it is with 2003 conversion rates. I searched upon this thread because I'm looking for a good conversion matrix...

Any FTer still working on this?

BTW, in Jills' chart, 1000 AA miles only equals 1000 Diner's points. On the Diner's side, 2190 points equals 1000 AA miles.

Okay, I created such a table a couple of months ago (for the programs that I was interested in at the time).

Seeing this topic was the nudge that I needed to put it online: http://home.covad.net/~hiroko1/FFTransfer.htm

I don't claim that it's complete or accurate, but I'm willing to maintain it (and add missing programs) if people will send me updates.

tw0i, great chart!

I'd like to suggest you add YX <--> Amtrak either way at 1:1.

This is more significant now that you can use YX miles to fly AA effective June 1, 2003.
