Current Marco Polo Match status
Hi everyone. Sorry, this thread has gotten so big it's hard to find the right info.
I am currently a UA 1K, and I'm already 75K into my 2011, so 1K again is assured. However, I want to start flying Cathay more. I am wondering if they can match some form of status for me at Marco Polo and what can I do to get that. I am nobody on AAdvantage right now though i have about 80K award miles there I'd like to just build on top of if possible. So ideally I'd like to have Marco Polo status, using AA as my miles, with my United 1K as status match. Can I get some guidance, pretty please? -Audrey |

Be careful with that. A lot of discounted coach fares on Cathay earn zero miles with AA.

Is AA doing direct status matches often these days instead of challenges?
I am getting concerned about the UA takeover of CO, given the recent devaluations there and the uncertainly if the new program will include UA's dreadful habit of *Net blocking.;

I just had a friend status match to Platinum today. Here's the email:
Thanks for speaking with me today about the special opportunity we are offering for you to obtain American Airlines AAdvantageŽ elite status without meeting the standard qualification requirements. In order to proceed, please provide us with documentation reflecting the elite status level you have in the frequent flier program we discussed. This documentation must reflect your name and elite status level for the 2011 Membership Year and could be in the form of a dated elite membership card or a copy or screen shot of your most recent account summary. In addition, please provide your AAdvantage number and your preferred phone number in case follow-up is necessary. If you wish to email this documentation back to us, please be sure to "Reply" to this message - and for prompt service, do not change the subject line. Simply include a copy of your documentation in any of the following formats, not to exceed 1 mb: .tif .jpg .bmp If you prefer not to send us email, you may FAX copies of your documentation to (817) 963-7882. Be sure to include your AAdvantage number and your preferred phone number. Please note it is not necessary to send us both an email and a FAX - one or the other will be sufficient. In either case, you can expect to hear from us within approximately one week of receipt of your credentials. We look forward to welcoming you aboard your next American Airlines flight - as a valued elite member with all of the benefits and privileges that status affords. We look forward to hearing from you soon. |

Why not just get a status match over to AAdvantage and use your OW status from that with CX?

I do one to two international trips a month, and almost no domestic trips. I'm going to be flying to Asia mostly, so I think the Marco Polo is my best bet. I'm almost ready to punt the AA miles anyway since I simply don't fly domestic much anymore and I can always just do that on UA.

I guess the ones being status matched by DL are getting it through 2/2012. What if i apply around mid year (let's say June), will I get my status matched to DL Plat or equivalent through 2/2013?
|
I will probably ask for the Status match with AA after July 1, and have the status last through Feb 2013. I think that will work out better for me considering most of my travel plans are towards the latter part of the year. :D

AA just matched my Continental Gold status to Platinum, gives me free checked bags for my upcoming flights. I hardly fly AA though

I am currently CO Platinum elite and traveling between the States and Africa on a monthly basis and will do so for the next two years. I do not like the fact that most co originated flights have to be routed thru the UK. The flights are available via DL and I really like their schedules. I am a member of the Sky miles program but do not have enough miles accumulated to allow for any upgrades to better seating. If DL will match my status with CO, I would be more than willing to have all my flights booked thru DL instead of CO. Does DL still match status with CO? Does anyone have an updated phone number to contact them or do I just dial up DL and talk to them about it. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

AA "no longer doing status matches"
I called in today to see about status match (from DL PT) and was informed that "as of yesterday" AA was no longer matching status from other carriers.
Perhaps others can confirm this independently, but it came as a bit of a shock to me that AA would forego the opportunity to poach business from a competitor. I'm not the world's biggest account, but I do generate well over 100K miles annually to parts of the world that are just getting additional attention (used to be that Delta/Aeroflot were the only carriers to Moscow from the USA, but now UA, AA, Singapore and Transaero carry as well). I was looking forward to having an option other than SkyTeam. |

So I'm trying to figure out why I would want to status match AF offer before the end of the month.
I'm EXPLAT on AA so I assume I would get equivalent on AF. I may fly once on AF from LAX-CDG in September but that would be it this year. So what is the advantage? I would do it if: 1) It might allow me an upgrade on AF to biz from cheap economy ticket; 2) I would receive lounge access domestically by flashing the AF/Delta card. Otherwise, is there any reason to do it when I'm still trying to requalify on AA and can fly AA metal in September to CDG? Thanks |
