See what FlyerTalk has led me to!

I am in Las Vegas this week for work.
Staying at a Marriott property on the bosses dime.
I am paying for another room at a SPG property out of my own pocket because it is soooo cheap-probably won't even sleep there.
You folks have just ruined me

Which SPG property? PH isn't bad at all - good location on the Strip and I love their buffet.

No reason to feel guilty at all. About 8 years ago I was checking out of the LV Hilton when the guy at the check desk asked if I'd like to spend another night at the hotel. I enquired as to why he was making me the offer. He informed me that they had some 3000 guests checking out that day. I asked him what the room rate was for Friday. He told me $10.00 for the night. Sooooo, I checked back in. Got the room key, and checked back while I was standing there. Hey, a stay is a stay (-;

Fly more & get a better seat

It's cool to have two rooms on New Year's Eve!

As long as your pocket (and your physicial fatigue) can support this behavior and that you are going to utilize the membership benefits as much as you can in the current and the following year, I see this (mattress run) as a pretty smart move (being a top tier elite means a lot at a brand hotel - it can make a world of difference in terms of experience).

On the other hand, there is no point of reaching an elite status (let it be hotel status or airline frequent flier program) if one is not going to utilize the benefits in the following year of the qualification. Why fly and spend so much if your travel isn't going to happen much in the following year (there could be one exception - if one is very close to acheiving the next tier status, then one or two MRs can be justified)?

But in the end, all comes down to personal economics. YOU can only be the judge of the cost effectiveness of your spending on MRs.

What about making our list of program affilliations look more impressive under our FT handles? I thought that's what most of us did.
