Magazines for Miles: Something I am missing in offer?

I received a solicitation from Hawaiian Air to take advantage of my soon to be "expiring" miles ( they say about 6500) and use them to order magazine subscriptions.( some I actually would subscribe to) I don't ever remember flying Hawaiian Air.... maybe 5 years ago inter-Island. Any way no credit card is asked for.... am I being snookered into something here or is this a legit offer.

You're not being snookered. I've received some great magazine and newspaper deals (free) using my remaining miles in US Airways, Continental, and TWA before they were bought by AA.

It is a standard offer for many airline programs. I traded in 500 miles from my USAir account earlier this year for 5 magazine subscriptions, so that was a good deal. I also did the same for my wife's account. We can't complain since this was a great bargain - 10 subscriptions for 1000 useless miles.

When I receive the offer for accounts that have several thousand miles that I might use some day, then I toss the offer. No downside, no commitment.

There is a discussion of similar offers in
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/008207.html

6500 miles is more than offers I've seen. (5 subscriptions for 1000-2000 miles.) That said, I'm on my third try to actually do this, and have found that advertised magazines that I've chosen aren't participating.

Why not transfer them to Hilton? I think the minimum is 5K miles (for 10K points) - I don't know if you can transfer 6K or if it has to be in increments of 5K. Either way you'll have to call HA to do it.

In addition to mags, these offers sometimes have really good deals for the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times.

I am currently enjoying a 1 year subscription to Sports Illustrated thanks to some orphaned miles !
