Miles and Upgrades for Hotwire Flights

I know airlines will not give miles for priceline tickets. Does anyone know if you earn miles for tickets purchased on hotwire? On a related note, are hotwire flights upgradable?

Thanks for yhour advice.

I'm pretty sure Hotwire has the same rules as Priceline when it comes to FF#. Not sure about the upgrades.

You can try and you may get lucky like you sometimes can do with Priceline, but I wouldn't count on it. When you check in just hand over your FF card with the ID and see if they enter it, then wait and see if you get credit.

Upgrades, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I have gotten miles on Priceline tickets when flying Air Canada and Swissair. This was a few years ago. I just handed over the card.

Upgrades are usually contingent on a PUBLISHED fare [as a minimum], no?

Yes, even on AA (the most "liberal" when it comes to upgrading from any fare) they exclude opaque fares such as O (aka consolidator fares).

Correct, except several years ago, I saw two AA/Priceline tickets booked in 'L'. They did get miles for those tickets.

I got miles for a hotwire flight in July (NW flight- Delta Skymiles). I guess it's just luck.

I got miles from AA booking thru Priceline just last month. The ticket was booked in class "L".

Only Orbitz allows air mileage.
Both Hotwire and Priceline clearly state, NO miles, in their small print.

I once managed to get NW miles on a priceline USAir flight. (probably more as a function of being rebooked by USAir on NW due to a late inbound flight that would cause me to miss my outbound connection)

Orbitz is the equivalent of a Travel Agent, like Expedia and Travelocity, whereas Hotwire and Priceline are more like consolidators. Orbitz does have a side bonus of US miles when booking US flights on their site, which might be what you're thinking of.

I have seen many, many instances where fares quoted on Hotwire were at or slightly above the lowest ones quoted on the standard web booking engines (Expedia/Orbitz/airline sites, etc.) for identical dates and city pairs. It appears that when they don't have access to consolidator fares, they just offer regular fares in normal booking classes (hoping that people will buy them on the incorrect assumption they are lower than available elsewhere) and these are likely the ones that do earn miles.

No miles, no upgrades however my colleague once managed to get some miles for it. I need to ask him about the details.
