Quickest Way to get Silver Status
Hi all
I was just wondering which is the quickest way to get silver status, with any of the airlines? What do you think is the overall best FFP for becoming silver quicker but which also has the best rewards for silver? I am just interested to know which one is the best by comparing their rewards facilities ect. Of course it would be better to join an airline that has many partners or even if they are appart of an alliance (oneworld, Star Alliance??)Any information would be greatly appreciated.
It would be good if the airline was in reach for me as I live in Perth and fly to Dublin every year/2 years.

American Airlines offers a Gold Challenge.
America West is offering a fast track to silver.
The question of which airline is best really depends on where you fly, what elite benefits matter most to you, and what you want to do with your miles.
If you're a resident of Australia, you could do the American Airlines promo and credit Qantas miles to the program I believe.

Continental is offering complimentary temporary Silver elite status if you call the OnePass Service Center. Fly three roundtrips on qualifying fares in the next two months, and your status will be extended until February 2004.
Of course, this probably won't be too helpful for you in Australia, but . . .

Keep in mind that "silver" is not a universal term. Precious metals mean different things to different airlines. Some even use non-metallic designators such as "Senator," "Premier" or "Chairman's Preferred." It's like referring to dollars without specifying if you mean the U.S., Australian, Canadian or some other type. Better to say "first-tier," "mid-tier" or "top-tier" elite, though even this falls down with airlines that don't use three tiers.

Find out about the AA program - if you fly on BA in World Traveller Plus once a year, and do some flying in Australia on QF, you may be able to earn enough miles in AA, using a Platinum (equivalent to QF Gold) Challenge, to get to Platinum level.
AA Platinum will entitle you to "mid tier" benefits, which in the OneWorld alliance is "Sapphire". Importantly, this includes lounge access in OneWorld lounges, except for AA lounges when travelling domestically in USA.
Have a good search in the AA forum for more information about this.
