Lightbulb Use Miles to pay Baggage Fees

How many miles would travelers be willing to redeem instead of paying the first/second baggage fees? I wonder what amount will make financial sense for the airlines. 2000? 3000? 5000? Should be rather easy to implement at the airport. Might improve customer satisfaction & reduce mile inventories.

Great idea, but the airlines need the cash upfront.

A mileage option in lieu of cash sounds like a good idea to me. This could incentivize the loyal, non-elite, leisure customers to stick with AA while pulling additional revenue from the most infrequent/budget traveler. My vote goes to 2500 miles/bag for the first two....
