You're not missing much without having the guide book. The one I received last year (issue #7) was printed in August of 2000. And I'm sure the content was turned into the printer some time before that. Thus most of the information in the "current" edition is close to three years old. And much has changed since then.

As a point of clarification the Membership Rewards offer is not active - hopefully in the near future. In addition as a heads up, we are planning to offer 3,500 Diners Club Club Rewards points for the Frequent Flyer Package for the months of August, September and October. Plus, since they appear to be 'live' with several programs, it seems as though there isn't a very long wait to receive miles.
