Concorde Question

Why doesn't somebody buy a few of the Concordes and do some charter flights.

As I recall, Air France flew to Vegas one time, then took out a charter flight where they flew out over the Pacific Ocean, went supersonic for a while, then returned to Vegas.

Seems like a money making idea to me.

They've been doing that for years in the UK as well as just pleasure flights over the Bay of Biscay.

Reckon it's just not financially viable once they go out of scheduled service

Since the Paris accident, there have been no BA charters of the sort we've been used to seeing. The money made out of them was a bit of icing on the cake of the then-profitable scheduled operation. They would never have supported a Concorde operation on their own, and would be even less capable of doing so with a reduced worldwide fleet.

I guess the fact that airbus want about $84million to support concorde for a couple pf years would be the first reason not to buy a couple for charter flights. Also you can't fly them supersonicd over land beacuse of the noise and of course most US airports wiil not allow them to in again due to the noise.
