Which FF program when flying with America West

Over the next few weeks I will be flying America West a number of times. I will not fly enough to get any rewards and it is unlikely that I will fly with them again.

What other airlines programs earn points on America West flights ? Is any one better than any of the others ?

Or is it better to get America West and use it on the other airlines that they cover?

I already have Air Canada, Continental and American FF cards but none of these cover America West.

In case anyone else is interested, I decided that Virgin Atlantic was the best one to join

It includes Delta (which I didn't have covered before) as well as America West and a host of other airlines (which I am highly unlikely ever to fly on).

All that I need now is for Virgin to start flying to Canada.

The British Airways scheme does not look very good for Economy travellers

Are any airlines that you are considering offering bonus miles for joining? That might make a difference. I know America West offered 3000mi online booking bonus but I think that is long gone. Worth looking into. Also, check the FT boards for the airlines you are considering.

edited to remove info meant for another post.

I was unable to work this out from BAs website. In fact I was unable to even work out if you get miles in your BA account for America West flights (you definitely get America West miles for BA flights, are these things always reciprocal)

If you are flying America West from Canada to the US, you can also get Northwest Miles, I believe.

America West took my NW number on my last domestic US flight, but the statement said that the flight didn't qualify for credit. Not a big deal, but you think that they would have said something up front.

That's because they probably didn't know....complete understanding of the FF program IS NOT in the res agents and GA's job descriptions. Trust me, I've been through this with NW...the FF'ers know the programs much better than the typical GA. Which is not a slam, just a fact.
