Throw away segment Question

I've never done this before, and I'd like to
hear from anyone who has.

I'm getting an award ticket city a -> b-> c
-> a . I wish to de-plane at city c and throw
away the segment to city a. Different flight
numbers between city c and a and flight departs 12 hours later to city a.

The thing is, I will have check-in bags that I have to retrieve at city c. I assume that
I will have diff flight coupons for all segments, so that when I check in at city b, I only present the coupon for city c, and pick up my bags .

Any problems with this ?

You should be fine as long as you're not ticketed to c and then back to a in the same day. If you are, you'll need to "short-check" your bags to c.

I tried that, but there was no availability for a next day flight before the 24 hr rule.

So my flight back to city a departs at 11:20 PM, and I arrive city c at 11:40 AM.

As this is a general award question, and not related to a mileage run, I'm going to go ahead and move it to MilesBuzz.

I try my best not to move threads in this forum as long as they're remotely related to the topic at hand, but in this case there is no relation to a run in the discussion.

Thanks,

Given the long layover at (c), just tell the baggage check folks that you want access to your stuff during those 12 hours. Might be a different story if it was 55 minutes.

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with MilesBuzz!

If the moderators can't figure out what belongs in MilesBuzz!, how on earth are ordinary FlyerTalkers expected to get it right?

Perhaps you were thinking about TravelBuzz!
