Help planning a RTW trip

Hi all,

I am a noob (though I have lurked off and on for a few months). I hope I 'm posting in the correct forum.

I have to go on a multi-city trip this summer (leave first week of June for about a month). I can fly outa any Chicago / Indy / Central Illinois airport. I need to cover WAW, DEL, MAA, SIN & CGK.

I thought it may be optimal to get a RTW ticket. If anyone can help point me to a place on this wonderful site where all the RTW promotions / fare structures are discussed, I'd be very grateful. (I searched, but did not see any).

Some of the questions I have are -

1. Is it better to buy these tickets from a country other than the U.S.?
2. Are there any bonus miles for covering 5-6 sectors etc.?
3. Are there any discounts / promotions for multiple passengers (planning the trip with family)?
4. Is it better to go through a travel agent or an airline directly?
5. Are there any automatic upgrades possible on a RTW fare?

Thanks a lot for any help you can give.

Welcome to Flyer Talk cheapskateflyer

There is a lot of discussion about RTW fares in the forums of the 3 major alliances - Sky Team, Oneworld and Star Alliance.

Welcome to Flyertalk!!
You might want to go to the Global Airline Alliance forum and then to either the One World or Star Alliance subforum.
Look at the Stickys and you will get a good basic briefing on RTW type tickets.
After seeing that information you will likely have additional questions. Ask in the appropriate alliance forum. The folks there are very friendly and also the real experts on this.
