Ambien

Flying SFO-NRT-SFO M-F next week. Picked up an RX from my MD. He prescribed the 5mg dose.

Any comments on the following?
1. What about taking it on the Westbound leg?
2. Anybody here have side effects?
3. Comments on trying one before I go so if I freak out I'm not at 36,000 feet in a bankrupt tin can?

Thanks,

PS Not looking forward to the trip as much I was yesterday(Monday) morning.

Hi!

I wouldn't worry about it; Ambien 5mg has got to be a very light dosage as I had a scrip for a month last year, and they were 10mg IIRC. Having said that, you *will* sleep without question...and I would guesstimate that the real variable here won't be the air travel or the westbound flight, but whether you have anything in your stomach when you take it and what your body mass is. If you're going to board on an empty stomach and you're 6'0" 190lbs then it's going to effect you differently (stronger) than if you eat three slices of pizza and a salad before your drive to the airport and, like me, you weigh 280-300 and stand about 5'10", IMHO. I hope that info helps you a little...and I'll reiterate what I said at the outset: I wouldn't worry about it. One thing that I *can* tell you is that you will NOT freak out (unless you forgot your [insert name of anti-depressant here], ha ha no offense) in any way, shape, or form. However, establishing a familiar routine with a new prescription (and finding out how it affects YOU, and what if any side effects YOU experience) by beginning its use a few days prior to your flight is your best bet. Keep in mind, your doc prescribed Ambien (or should have) because you informed him you have been having trouble sleeping. Ambien will RELAX you and allow you to get some of the sleep you've been missing out on!

Again, hope the info helps, and have a great, peaceful trip.....you are getting sleeeeeppppeeeeee!

The subject of Ambien has been brought up in the FT Omni board a number of times this past few months. Here are two threads I found in a search:

http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/008732.html

http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/005685.html

In order to get some fresh views on this subject I am moving this thread to FT Travel - Omni. The current location is intended for threads on "Miles" related "Buzz". Thanks.
