Sorry, that might be a dumb question: Do I get miles when I book a flight at Orbitz?
Searched, but could not find the answer ...

It depends upon whether you book a flight in a fare class that is eligible for mileage with that particular airline and/or alliance.

Rontec & Diplomatico:

Thanks!
I booked the flight and Orbitz asked me for my frequent flyer #, which is a good start However, I don't know the booking class, it does not show on Orbitz ... flights are all on Star Alliance: United-Lufthansa-US Airways...I'll wait and see.

An insider (with access to the booking system) just told me that it is booking class S on UA and LH. Any idea how many miles (5,169 + 5220 = 10,389 , S-class = x% of this??)

Found this cheap fare here:

Fly from Miami to Munich or Frankfurt for a mere $324-$335 roundtrip, including all taxes and fees with sale fares we found from Orbitz.
That's the lowest price we've seen in quite some time, not to mention we would expect to pay three times more to fly this same route later in Spring! To get these deals, depart Monday-Thursday through March 13 and return before April 12.

Hurry! We expect these fares to expire after 11:59PM on Jan. 10. Check out the sample prices from Miami -- roundtrip, including taxes:

Munich ... $324
Frankfurt ... $335
We found the best fares when traveling Monday-Thursday

S class is 50% of the actual mileage.

You can look it up here:

Depends on the FF program for which you want the miles; you didn't say whose you gave. In bmi Diamond Club, for example, S class earns 1 mile per mile flown on UA, 0.5 on LH. It varies from one program to another. Each program's Web site can generally tell you how many miles you earn per mile flown by airline and fare class.

Thanks again ... you are really well informed.

wow, I was going to do an Orbitz tkt till I found out that the outbound was a fare that earned 0 miles, yet the return flight would have earned 100%. So that meant 50% to me, yea the fare was low but since i fly with EQMs in mind that meant to get 100% I needed to double the fare amount an dthen it didnt make sense at all too high.

But if its not a MR and its more important to get to wherever it is one is heading for the least amount of $$, with EQMs being secondary. Then Orbitz is OK.

BTW after you hit the select button, it brings you to another page hit the 'continue' on the bottom of that page w/o filling in anything but picking any name, on the page that now comes up scroll to he bottom and there should be in blue 'terms & conditions' click on that and it should show you what the fare basis is. Then you have to go to whatever Carrier you want the miles to go into, to see if the fare basis Orbitz is selling actually earns miles and at what %

Orbitz benefit beyond just lower fare

I am sure a lot of you are already aware of this, but through www.mrrebates.com you can get $4.00 per booking that you make through their website at Orbitz. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
