Different "buckets" for FF Tickets??

I have a vague recollection of having read somewhere that there is a wider selection of seats available for Elite level members of FF programs than for regular members. Is there any truth to this, or is it just a faulty memory?

Bruce,

This will vary by program. United, for example, has a special bucket of coach seats available for 1K members that are not available to other Mileage Plus members. That's the only "bucket" that they openly state they have available based on status.

There are multiple buckets on Northwest. For example the $ and miules promos to Hawaii have tickets in a currently sold out bucket. Some of the fare buckets appear to be internal use only and it is not possible for passengers to see them.

Thanks,

I hit 1K about March 1. I am traveling in mid-April with a friend, and can't get a 25,000 mile ticket. Looks like I should just wait a couple of weeks and try again.

I have read on here somewhere that continental does have seperate FF seat buckets for elite members for standard rewards. More economy standard awards are available for all levels equally. Another first/businessfirst standard reward bucket for platinum only.
