Earning Miles or Points by Giving to Charities (Dec 2007)
After doing a cursory search this morning, it seems that most airlines and hotels DO NOT award miles for donations to charitable organizations. The only ones I could find were American Airlines and Hilton HHonors which have the following current partners:
American Airlines
National Park Foundation: 10 miles per $ (minimum donation for miles = $100), Link: http://www.aa.com/apps/AAdvantage/Vi...artnersContent
U.S. Fund for Unicef: 2 miles per $ (limited offer thru 1/31/08), Link: http://www.aa.com/apps/AAdvantage/Vi...artnersContent
USO: 125 miles per $25 increment, Link: http://www.aa.com/apps/AAdvantage/Vi...artnersContent
Hilton HHonors
City of Hope: Various earnings levels, BUT APPEARS TO BE PAST THE LAST EVENT, Link: http://www.cityofhope.org/WalkforHop...tonHHonors.htm
If others exist for other airlines or hotels, please list with the pertinent information.
I'd prefer to avoid the discussions of whether or not one should be motivated by miles to give, the income tax ramifications of the gift, or programs where miles can be given to charities. There have been several threads in the past that cover those topics in detail.
