AA and E-Rewards - Not What Was Expected!

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, but I just cashed in $50 in E-rewards for 2500 AA miles - or so I thought. What I really did was get a 2500 mile bonus on my next online AA.com purchase. The text of my confirmation message is below.

Dear JAX Flier,

Thank you for your participation in e-Rewards, the program that rewards you for reading and reacting to e-mail that has been screened to match your interests.

You will receive your reward of 2,500 AAdvantage(R) bonus miles in addition to any other bonus miles you may qualify for when you use AA.com to purchase a one-way or round-trip flight on American Airlines, American Eagle, or American Connection and travel between February 1, 2003 and April 30, 2003. Miles will be credited after travel is completed. Bonus miles do not count toward elite status qualification. Bonus will be posted within 3-4 weeks after flight activity is posted to the traveler's AAdvantage account. Bonus applies to person traveling. No registration is required.

Watch your e-mail in the weeks ahead for e-Offers and e-Research opportunities for which you can earn e-Rewards dollars. Earn enough e-Rewards and you can redeem for a choice of Rewards including AAdvantage Bonus Miles.

Sincerely,

The e-Rewards Team

Thanks for posting this info. My erewards $ would have been totally wasted since I won't be booking a ticket and flying within that period. I will be flying but our tickets were purchased a few months ago. Guess I'll take Hilton points instead.

If that is not a deceiving practice ... another one like this and they can forget about me.

I'm sorry you found out late in the game, but the travel rewards for e-rewards are a scam. The Hertz certificate, for example, requires you to use a "special" rate code that will almost always be higher than the discount rates that are so ubiquitous.

I take my $50 in Blockbuster certificates every year. At least I know what I'm getting.
