Is this a fair deal?

For some people it is. In your case I don't know because you supplied zero information about yourself other than to trot out your status.

It can be a pretty good deal if you have plenty of airline miles and you can use hotel stays.

I tend to buy my airline tickets and try to use hotel rewards for high priced cities. For example, a $600 ticket on UA from SFO-SIN can yield nearly 40,000 miles which can be converted to 80,000 HH points. For 100,000 HH points I can get a hotel room for 6 nights with a GLON 100,000 point award. The hotel would typically cost more than $1000 for 6 nights at the lowest available rate.

I find it a good deal because I get my airline ticket, increased airline status, and hotel room for just the price of an airline ticket.

Now with the changes in points required for awards with Hilton in 6 months it will require a recalculation of how good the value is next summer. Right now I rely on conversion of airline miles to HHonors to substantially lower the cost of vacations. I find it a good value and use of airline miles.

Like noted before: it depends on your goals and personal situation.

I had a little under 15K miles stranded in Mileage Plus. I bought something through the UAL website to get my balance over the 15K threshold and transfered the 15K miles to 30K HHonor points (transfers can only be done in multiples of 5K). Great deal for me: the points are helping me a lot to get 6 free nights in Hawaii, in MP I had no use for them at all.

These days I only use my MP account to earn miles with IDine: this earns me 10K HHonor points every couple of months.

what was the offer? Is there a web site, etc?
Like Rodney D said, there was no info except status stuff (ha ha ha)-unless that was left out by accident.

I do think the deal sounds great though and that transferring miles to HH is a good thing all around. I use MP but wife does not (we can use miles for awards on partner that she has points with and fly together there) and so all her MP miles went into HHonors points.

But again, was there a web link or special offer here?

Nothing special. You can get 2:1 with most of the biggies except for AA:

excellent, Clanson, and thanks for the tip/reminder. But does anyone know if US Air ever will join in? Hope so.

No need to post questions twice.

Not only is it against the FT rules, you also made me doubt my own memory: I remembered replying to this thread, but couldn't see my reply. Turned out I was looking at your second posting of the same question in the Hilton Forum...

dzh actually started this thread on the United Airlines forum as well...

It seems that you need the answer very badly; but it is hard to follow up on the discussion. Please don't do this again!

And he also did it with another thread about earning points for eating at a hotel restaurant here and here.

dzh, please limit your posts to one forum each. It is really annoying to come across the same post all over the place.

Apologies for cross-posting. (I guess this place doesn't work like usenet.)

Which forum would have been most appropriate?

Welcome to FT, and thanks for being open to "the way we do thing around here." We're also different from Usenet in that people will usually explain things first, and flame later.

As to your which would have been best...
I'm thinking the Hilton Forum based on the assumption that you pretty much know what a mile is worth, and you really want to know what you can get out of Hilton HHonors pointsn at a 1:2 exchange rate.

And I think the type of answers you got in the HH forum were very much geared to that. Here (in Miles Buzz) the answers were more generalized. And in the UA forum (haven't seen it), I'd guess they just went on and on about Chapter 11 (jk :-)
