When I first started lurking and seriously collecting miles, pgary's site and the mileageworkshop were invaluable. I was glad that someone took the time to collect all these sources of easy miles that most FTer's now take for granted - if they got a referral bonus, great - a small payback for their help.

What gets old is that these "how do I get miles" threads always pop up by people new to these boards, and everyone makes the same posts to referral sites (with the occasional thrashing of the referring party) plus their individual favorite tips. CMK10 - this is not a poke at you. There is no easy way to find out about such opportunities unless you ask or wait for someone else to post a thread (someone will say use the search function, but you can spends hours doing that without finding the information you need).

What I'd like to see on FT is a reference section for newbies that lists all these referral sites (with a note that the site owner may get a referral bonus for some opportunities). When someone posts a general "how do I get miles" question, they can be referred to that section of FT, and the issue is closed.

Edited for bad spelling - hey, it's 6:50 am.

Having these sites in a list some place is an excellent idea.

But, I would much rather see people passing on the ways they get miles in regular posts and not having someone that has their own site just say "go to www.blablabla.com for information".

By posting the suggestions here it allows all of us to read them and not have to go to other sites.

I think full disclouse should also be made that the person posting the site runs the site or might benefit from it.

My blog contains all of the free miles and mileage suggestions that I come across. Many are culled from the most useful tips on Flyertalk and others are ones I come across myself. If you have time to kill, you just might find it valuable.

Of course, Mileage Workshop is a good starting place as well.

i did not mind making my list, but I also know that things change and some site info goes bad. For example, I found at least one on both Mileageworkshop and on Gary's site that were no longer true and only Gary ever replied to me about it and later checked it out and adjusted his site. Again, his is at least something he did for no expectations at all but if there were an easy way to give him a few bonus points for the effort, I am sure many would do it (hey there's a place to put an unethically earned 60k, speaking of good causes!!!)

anyway, any site or list would get upstaged or changed or hey, even hacked by someone out there and that is the way it is. I suppose we all have to be as patient and tolerant of new-to-miles junkies as some may have been when we started out. It's not about how many miles you have, it's whether or not you USE them!!!

So, find tips and offer them to all and then they will come back to you in many ways! thatis what I try to do. Hope it helps... and ALWAYS double check everything because I know my seplling needs this (but that hardly counts --content should instead!)

thanks/

Not to take away from websites put up by Dave Fisher, Gary Steiger, et al, I would also suggest going to the airline's website to find out about promotions. American Airline's website now lists all possible ways to earn AAdvantage miles. Check it out at www.aa.com. BTW, I haven't found anything new on mileageworkshop for the last three weeks.

...and yet the way I see it is that not all airline sites list even all their own promos or specials (certainly, no where on AA can you find much if anything about how you can earn miles thru cashing in on CLICKREWARDS.com)

AND, I think the person(s) who wanna know about ways to earn, is looking for a one stop shop of sorts where you can get many ideas on many airlines all at once. AA will not disclose DL info, for example, although both sites do have a great deal of info.

I suggest bookmarking several pages and just diving into it. KEEP RECORDS of everything though, since airlines make mistakes and you may have to fight to get miles or points you earned! Hmmm, I think that one sounds a bit familiar.

CMK10-Please note that non of these non flying miles are really "free"-there is always an extra marketing or in some cases actual price to pay for them. Just one example: T D WATERHOUSE has a promo for AA miles, but if you read the small print it has to be in a certain type of AA account which pays a lower interest rate then exactly similar other account. So one is really buying the miles!
