What's in your wallet?

I saw a news report yesterday dealing with the use and growth of credit cards in America. The story reported the average balance, average interest charges and so on. It then went on to say that the average American carries 12 credit cards...12. That seems high to me. I've got four personal and one corporate. No gas cards, no store charge cards...only my AMEX, Starwood, Mileage Plus and Marriott cards.

How many cards do you tote around?

I have 8 cards - UA Visa, MR Visa, HH Amex, AA World MC, Citi Dividend Plat Visa, Diners, Corp Amex, and my local bank's Visa checkcard. Carrying five true credit cards seems overwhelming to me, so I can't imagine what 12 would be like. In 2003, I will dump the UA card and probably the MR Visa. As soon as I cross 1 million lifetime AA miles, the AA World MC is gone, too. Long term I'd like to be down to the Citi Dividend and HH cards. No fees, decent rewards, and only two websites to visit each month to pay the bills.

So...do you all take regular photocopies of everything in your wallet, just in case it should be lost or stolen? Just a reminder. I sometimes forget. Jean

I just have two credit cards which are a Lufthansa Senator Visa and a plain Eurocard/Mastercard which I have used only once so far...

I posted my contents on markbachs thread earlier this year. Since then I have added...2 buttons, a subway coupon, a steinmart coupon, a piece of gum, some birthday money. I'm pleased to report I still have my $1,000,000 bill

To make this qualify

I have Diners Club (mileage or point earning
depending on my choice)

American Express (same as DC for miles/pts)

Wasn't really looking for the ss cards or Subway punch cards (do they have Jarrod's face on them?)...just the credit/charge card variety.

Curious as to how many affinity cards folks carry around w/ them...seems miles related to me. If it doesn't in either the moderator's or ranles' opinion, it can be moved or rudely commented on respectively.

I think the original comment was that this thread isn't really "Buzz" worthy. Yes, it's about miles/points, but it's not really buzz.

Of course, you could say this about most of the stuff in MilesBuzz, so I don't really get too bent out of shape about where a topic belongs - as long as it's in the ballpark, which this is.

OMNI is more suited for discussions about politics, whether Randy Johnson is the greatest LHP in history, and the BCS. This is actually about miles and points.

Mauld--you have a paper with your numbers on them? You mean you don't have them memorized?

I used to collect credit cards, but stopped a while ago, aside from applying for a card or two a couple of times a year. There was a variety of reasons I stopped (mainly to have a clean credit record when I bought a house, plus I started to open myself up to identity theft, in which I had a couple of incidents). But I have close to 500 cards, most all are closed from inactivity. As far as what I carry in my wallet at any given time, it's only about 5 cards, including my Citibank AAdvantage MasterCard.
