Hello,
I'm new to the board and am hoping to learn how to rake in the miles like so many of you.

To echo PremEx, flying a lot does help.
Kidding aside, and more specifically, the answer depends on how much flying you plan to do, where, how (class of service, fare paid, ...), your preferred airline(s) if any and other particulars. Once you narrow those down you can get more specific answers. Also, if you plan to focus on one or a few airlines (always a good idea, if your travel patterns permit) you can find lots of information in that airline's, or those airlines', forums.
Many of us also do "mileage runs," especially when a relatively small expenditure will help reach a milestone that carries substantial benefits in terms of bonus miles, status (which can mean more bonus miles in the future) or something else we want. Check out that forum for more on mileage runs.
Good luck!

Although flying a lot does help, if you stick around enough, you'll soon see that you can still rack up a ton of miles through promotions, affinity programs, mileage bonuses etc. without ever having to leave the ground.

I suggest you start with my site below. Most all of the free opportunities to earn miles are listed there. Click on Free Frequent Flyer Miles in the left menu, then perhaps on How to Begin in the top menu.

I have a Priority CLub Card and have gotten pretty good at raking in the miles with that. I'm currently only a couple hundred points away from Elite status.
What stinks about that is every calendar year you have to keep hitting it to keep it. I don't think I will do it again next year since I just changed jobs and don't travel as much now.
I have a Visa card that gets me points towards my NWA program.
I hope I do well here and follow everything that is going on so I don't miss anything good.
Thanks for all the welcomes.

status with the miles&more-program (LH, OS, Lauda, LOT), which earns miles when flying all StarAlliance-carriers, is valid for two calendar years (plus Jan/Feb). Example: you achieve Senator status with miles&more in 2003 (you need 100'000 status miles in a calendar year for that), than your Senator status expires feb-2006 (if you don't requalify with another 100'000 status miles in either 2004 or 2005; you only have to requalify in one of these two years); but even then you are only downgraded 'one level' and you will maintain the second highest level ('Frequent Flier') for another two years = until feb-2008 (eight).
