I need some creative help
Last fall I took advantage of a No Interest-No Payment for 1 Year Promotion from Home Depot. The bill is due in January. I contacted HD and attempted to pay the charge off early using a credit card, they would not take a CC for payment on an extended no interest promotion. I called AE and asked about buying Travelers Checks and gaining MR points, they said no MR points on TC purchases Anyone have any ideas on how I could pay this off and receive miles/points?

Go buy something of similar value at Home Depot on your mileage-earning credit card. Take it back as unsuitable and ask them for credit vouchers. Use the creidt vouchers to pay off the loan.
No experience of doing this - just an off-the-wall idea.

I called HD Credit Dept. and asked if someone gave me a gift coupon could I use it to pay off my account, I received a very polite "NO". Back to SQUARE ONE.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Perhaps put it on a debit card that has a lower mile earning rate, but gives you miles nonetheless?
I've seen a bunch of these posted around, but none of them exist in Canada (with the exception of one crappy BMO one), and so I tune out.

Could you buy large gift certs and then buy 99 cent items and get the remainder back in cash? Some places will give you cash back, others won't..don't know about Home Depot.

Besides, it's probably not worth the hassle. Have you ever seen the return lines at Home Depot?

Most gift certificates have something printed on them along the lines of "not valid for payment on account." I recently experienced the same dilemma at Best Buy - if I took their 48 month interest-free promo, I would not earn the miles by charging it on a mileage card.
If you do figure out a way to do this, please post it!!

Christstep,
Good idea except used the promo for recarpeting house and adding a deck on the rear of house. Thanks for answering though.

I think you're saying the amount is too high to be practical, but I'd urge you to reconsider Christstep's return for store credit idea.
Say you spent $5,000 or even more. If you browse the power tools section surely you can find some small things that are very expensive. You'll need to study the return policy to see how best to play the scenario out, but I'd think it could be done.

Another idea:
I've occasionally seen and heard of miles, points, or cash back bonuses being earnable on balance transfers and/or convenience checks. I don't know of any offhand, but you could call your credit card company.

If you have a Citibank AAdvantage card or a Citibank HHonors card then register for c2it. Transfer $ from Citibank to your bank account via c2it (it should post as a purchase on a Citibank card). Don't get into a habit of doing this or they'll terminate your c2it account. Then just use the new cash in your credit card account to pay off the Depot card.
