American Aadvantage lifetime status?

Does reaching 1 million miles and lifetime status mean that the total miles posted ever on your account is 1M or that you have 1M in the account. That is can you use the miles and still be working your way to the lifetime status? And what are the benefits of lifetime status anyway? I'm new to this.

First, these types of questions are best posed in the American Airlines forum.

To answer directly. Yes, it's the lifetime total that counts toward lifetime status. The amount you have available for use doesn't matter.

For more details, I suggest you check the AA forum, preferably by doing a search.
