Hey Whats up guys...after being a long reader I have finally joined. I am looking to make a purchase on Amazon.com and was wondering if any FF program offered any miles for it. I'll be using my Skymiles AmEx card so I'll get miles there, but was just wondering if I could get some more. Thanks

If it doesn't absolutely have to be Amazon, you can get 3 AA miles per $ spent, over and above whatever your credit card gives you, at Barnes & Noble through AAdvantage eShopping.

I know of no portals yet for Amazon but you could check your favorite airline malls to see what is comparable and go from there. I'd then get that airline's credit card and watch the miles pile up! I just racked in a ton from various NWA promos and CC deals coupled with mall activity. Also did well on AA but United's mall has always had mile posting issues in my experience, so be sure to save everything related to any charge no matter what you do.

Now, I personally have had bad experiences with Amazon and here are some things to watch out for just in case--this may help you think about the shopping you do:

1) do not store info like a debit or credit card number on your account. In one case, a coupon that should have worked was NOT applied but no real notice was given to the purchaser. This, in turn, did charge a debit card listed in the account that actually was expired and had an old address on it. Purchaser had no idea. It was supposed to come from the coupon but it instead 'sucked' the info right from the existing member account area and took money that should never have been spent. In the end, the bank account got Overdraft fees and charges and it took 3+ months to fix it all trying to deal with Amazon and Mastercard, etc.

2) CS is a huge department with no onsite managers. If you need to escalate any issue (like the above), you are mostly out of luck. You will have to google HQ and battle with them hard, and good luck with that! They know they are a big, successful company so they will try and beat you.

3) Some Amazon items are 3rd party (meaning many coupons will not apply but their fine print can be confusing and deceiving as hell) so it's a pain to deal with these if there are any issues, etc.

4) often times, if you think about it, you could do better on Ebay in most cases for most stuff you need online. Still, no miles with ebay, but that's my experience.

Anyway, I may be biased but even so, if there are no miles involved it's a lean toward the places where there are. Unless the $$ savings is really big or the item is available nowhere else, I would consider weighing the cost of the Amazon listed items against those at other stores found in airline malls.

Add that with promos that may be going on and see if the gain of miles thru such portals is worth any difference in price for your needs. For example, if I am a Staples Reward member, and NWA mall has a 4 mile/$1 spent portal, and a NWA promo is giving 500 miles for every mall purchase over $50, and the items ship free if over $50, AND I get my credit card miles too and the item comes from Staples itself in 2 days, PLUS is has a store rebate too, then it was farrrr better to go with them than something competitive in Amazon or in other places. Also, right now, Home Depot has free shipping on select items over $49 too, for example. You just have to look around to find these sorts of combinations, I think.

Only indirectly. Many airline on-line stores give miles for gift cards. You can buy a gift card for Borders books and get credit for it. If you go to Borders books on line you are connected to Amazon and you can use your Borders books gift card to buy books only on Amazon.

In general, for any merchant, you can answer this question by going to http://evreward.com/. Amazon apparently doesn't feel the need to market itself in this way.

I don't think any Amazon portals exist... Amazon's affiliate agreement specifically prohibits affiliates from offering any sort of incentive or rebate for purchases through the affiliate link. All portals work that way, i.e. by "sharing" a portion of their commission with the consumer. Since Amazon explicitly prohibits this practice, you are unlikely to find a portal offering miles/cashback for Amazon.

The only way around this is via gift certificates purchased from a third party (e.g. SuperCertificate, etc.) if you can find a portal to that third party...

You may find some links provided by charities, which are affiliates, though. I try to use a charity link every time I buy something on Amazon.

If you purchase at sears.com and do in-store pick up, they'll match Amazon prices and give you 10% of the difference. So... sears.com is linked on most airline portals (I do this with CO). You find what you want at Amazon... build your order & print it. Then purchase at sears and go into the store to pick up. Find the manager and get the price match. If they don't, just don't pick it up.

But... make sure the manager doesn't void and re-enter the sale as in-store.

That's not entirely true. Amazon does actually partner with some rewards programs, just not any of the limited number listed on that site - you can see a far more comprehensive list of rewards program offerings via RewardsDB which includes many more rewards programs (and indirect mileage earning opportunities) including non-US programs. That's strange since Amazon's Associate Agreement specifically prohibits sites from offering rewards for using their Amazon link. To wit:
I suspect that those "participating" sites (not counting RewardsDB itself, since it offers no reward) are all in violation of their Associates agreement.
