I needed to go to London from Manchester last Wednesday afternoon by train. Unfortunately work commitments made me miss the train, but my TA informed me of a new service MAN -LCY (London City Docklands) that had just started that Monday. Lucky me, I was staying at the London Hilton Docklands!!!! So, I caught the 19.00 flight, and arrived at my hotel at 20.30 in time for a drink with some colleagues from the USA.
The time from touchdown on the tarmac to sitting in the back of a taxi was just 6 minutes!!!
The service is with VLM on a Fokker 50, and their first flight out in a morning, 06.40, gets you into London at 07:30. Neither BA, BMI or Train gets you to the City at that time.
The gem is London City Airport. Check in time is just 15 minutes before departure.
In Manchester the staff in the BMI lounge said they were worried by this new service. Rightfully so, as long as you do not mind having no FF points yet. However, the loser I feel will be Virgin Trains, especially next year when Railtrack shut a large part of the West Coast line near Manchester for 4 months.
Manchester has very few "perk" airlines like Ryan, Easyjet, BMIBaby, Buzz, so I urge other FFYers to try this service to ensure it stays ( I believe Scot Air gave it a try some time back but abandoned it)

As this is not related to a mileage scheme, "TravelBuzz" is a better home to discuss this new airline.
