AMEX points to Austrailia

Have 150 k AMEX points and want to go to Austrailia in business from Texas. Any suggestions?
Feel free to move this to an appropriate area if this is not correct.
Thank you.

AmEx Membership rewards transfer 1:1 into ANA. ANA points can be used for a *A award on United or Air New Zealand (I recommend UA's C over NZ's C). Same story holds for Mexicana. UA requires 90k miles for a C ticket, but I haven't seen the ANA or MX *A award charts so YMMV.

You can also transfer 1:1 into Continental or USAirways. I believe both of those allow Qantas redemption options (both require 105k miles for a C ticket), and USAirways should very shortly allow United redemption as well.

I'd say go with the QF award on CO. You can call CO have them check availability before you transfer points. If you do a search on the CO board, you'll find some helpful tips on getting the award out of CO...

I thought on CO only Golds can book a business class award more than 30 days before the flight

You can also transfer into CO from there to Amtrak and from there to UA all at 1:1. That might give you the most flexibility - my experience with CO is that they have fairly limited QF rewards (at least in Biz and 1st)

No idea if the QF award is from ANY city in the USA or just their couple of gateways. The UA award is from anywhere in the USA they fly. That 90K award IMO will increase pretty soon, and they just DOUBLED their upgrade award figure to 60,000 miles we hear, so I'd be locking in 90K real fast if you want UA. Best deal in the whole UA chart.
