High Flyer Arrested

Sydney, 22 August 2002 ...

A man has been arrested after he allegedly fraudulently redeemed almost $15,000 in airfares through a frequent flyer scheme.

Police allege ... man manipulated the scheme which enabled him to redeem flights on domestic and international routes to destinations including Brisbane and Auckland.

2 problems I see ...

1. It does not tell us how he did it ?

2. Why only Auckland ? Surely there are better places ?

Man, those Frequent Flyer schemes can be really dangerous. What kind of person would indulge in such nonsense.

'Manipulated the scheme'. What did he do? A mileage run?

I think they better build some more jails

The Flyers united, will never be defeated.

Must have been a slow week for major crimes requiring police attention.

Thanks - sorry to be a bother, but you would have the full text (or some more info), I can not seem to find it on the website.

BTW $15,000 is only one First Class LAX - AKL - BNE flight - so I was just wondering if the paper gave any more clues

This is the same country that bought you :-

"The Premier was enthusiastic yesterday (June 20, 2002) in selling the taxpayer benefits of the decision to stop public servants accumulating frequent-flyer points, saying he scored a big discount on government travel."

Guess they just don't like FF's in Aus

Perhaps it was one of the PBO - TPR FT bus riders?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum39/HTML/000472.html

Buy a refundable ticket online and get the miles. Does it then become fraud if the person refunds the ticket yet keeps the miles? What if you did it once? What if you did it every day for 3 months? When does it become a criminal case?

In the US my guess it would be never, but I remember a thread (cannot find) on the QF board where at least one bus rider had his account suspended!!!
