You should also look at Zone LD, which has rates between 3.5 and 4.0 cents/minute.

One of the best websites out there is www.abelltolls.com . Excellent comparison of LD phone rates...

Have given up on telecomm mileage. The effort to get your miles/points was just too much. Also could not justify the higher prices charged by the large firms. Was paying $3.95/month and 7 cents/min with AT&T. Switched over to Capsule Communications. Paying 3.9 cents/min. to 48 US states at anytime of day/night 7 days per week; Alaska and Hawaii are 15 cents/min. but never have reason to call there. No monthly fee, no minimum charge as long as I have my bills go to my credit card each month. Bills are all electronic, no paper. This is all direct dial by the way, no 10-10+ numbers needed. 10 cents/min. domestic calling card. Very good international rates at no monthly charge. Canada is 8 cents/min. Italy 13 cents/min. I don't need miles at these rates.

It's not worth the agony. I've been very pleased with www.bigzoo.com and I get miles on the credit card recharges. Their rates are very competitive, 3.7 cents domestically, and most of Europe is around 4.4 cents.

No there is not (at least there wasn't a couple of months ago). I bought a card to use for calls from Japan back home during a trip in April... 17 cents/minute... I thought it was an excellent deal.

I'm a very happy customer of zoneld.com, which I got from a FlyerTalk posting.

Their rates are in the 4 cent range, and no dialaround/800 numbers to call. Plus, they don't do paper - they email you the bill, and then charge your credit card. No monthly fees or minimums.

I'm going to buck the trend and not complain about MCI. The first 400 minutes each month are billed at 2.5 cents and 7 cents after that. Tack on 1000 miles per month the first 5 months plus 5/$spent, and I'm satisfied. Granted this was a thing to get me back as an MCI customer, but it's just about as good as I'm going to get elsewhere. The best thing is to leave a company and see what they come up with to get your service back.

ps...I use a dial around for international calls. I haven't found a major carrier that is competitive w/o monthly fees.

Does anyone know if the AA/10,000 bonus mile offer is still being given?

Thanks,
Sharon

Just signed up for AA/MCI 10K miles. The newest catch is that you have to wait for 90 days (instead of 30) for the first 5K miles to post. I'll think about canceling then and rejoining if they call and beg.

Grasshopper,

Just curious...

Is the 10K a special targeted offer?

Thanks.

I signed up for MCI's neighborhood plan in April and so far I can't complain. Unlimited 24/7 local and long distance for 49.99 per
month. Delta miles and 10000 bonus (1000 per month until 10000 reached).
The Sam's Club phone card is excellent (no set-up fee) and we use that whenever we are away from home. I stopped using a cell - waiting for a deal.

How did you get 10K? I only got 3K? Is it that call card offer for non-U.S. residents?
Anyway, I cancelled MCI after all my 3,000 miles posted. The last month I had them, I made only one call on MCI for 20 cents. But all those taxes and fees brought my bill to over $5.00. Right now I have no long distance carrier on my home phone (I must 10+ dial) because I make most long distance calls from my cell phone which works fine in my house. Having no long distance carrier saves me those long distance access charges. But if MCI calls back begging I'll ask for some more miles. They haven't yet, probably because they can't afford the phone call, as they're in bankruptcy.

I use BigZoo.com as well but its only 2.9cents per minute if you use the local access number and 3.5cents per minute if you use the 800 number, domestically of course.
