RTW question

Hey everyone, I have a question, i have been saving miles for a while, in many different ways. A while back I ran into about 40000 miles in 500 mile certs for delta. Also, I was living in Prague for a while and collected a bunch of miles through flying Czech Air (SkyTEAM), i also got the skymiles card, etc...anyway, i have about 80000 delta.
so i usually when given a choice, take delta miles (ie-on hilton stays)

i know that in a year or two, i want to do a RTW trip and i want to do it free. i think that the delta RTW program limits you to only 6 stops worldwide...is that true?

now, from reading stuff here, it seems that other airlines give many more or unlimityed stops on their RTW tix. which airline is the best? is it one world alliance? star alliance? if it is an alliance, is it the same amount of miles if you collect on any of the partners or would maybe quantas RTW be less miles than American? Who should i be saving on?

If you give me mileage numbers, could you give them to me in economy and coach.

Also, if i wanted to, where and how and usually how much could i buy a RTW tix, how much could i stop, this is coming from NY?

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

You might have better luck in the Delta or SkyTeam forums.

DL does limit you to 6 stopovers, but on international tickets you can stay up to 24 hours in transit, so you can have a day in a city without being a stopover. In general the DL RTW is the worst (in terms of routing, cities you can visit, convenience and cost). Both Oneworld and Star are much better for RTW (either award or paid). The rules change regularly so they will be different by the time you ticket. Given your heavy investment in Delta, phone DL reservations and ask for the "round the world" desk (open during business hours, not at night). For some routings DL is quite good and 6 stopovers are plenty for a nice trip. It all depends where you want to go.

Search function on FT will find a wealth of info on this, it is all there and easy to find. Have fun. Look in the Oneword, Star and Skyteam forums.

number 6, where can i find info about how many miles ONE WORLD and STAR ALLIANCE rtw tix cost?

also, for delta, if i stay over in some european country for 25 hours, it counts as a stop, right?

so basically, i cannot really tour australia unless i buy some individual tickets to fly within, or rent a car right (i know open jaws are allowed...), that is if i want to use some other stopovers elsewhere in the world....

also, are there any great benefits to the delta RTW like ive seen people posting about the other ones, for instance, some guy once posted about getting a free LAX-somewhere in the carribean flight, in the middle of his journey because LAX was a gateway airport for some airline (i think this was a one world tik), what exactly was he talking about? any ideas?

Award levels are generally programme dependent. For Star you can find some information in the Comparison Chart.

a stopover (in Europe too, but anywhere on an international ticket) is defined as a stop longer than 23 hours 59 minutes or the next connecting flight, whatever is longer (that could be over 6 days, as some airlines fly only once a week to a specific location ...).

Flyertalk has specific ONE WORLD and STAR ALLIANCE forums. IMO THAT is the place to ask all these questions.

The reason UA is not included in the Comparison Chart is that they do not yet have a Star Award Chart, and thus no RTW awards. Their Star Chart is rumoured to be just around the corner, any day now.

Finally, a more general tip. There are lots of people around here who are willing to help. However, I think you will find that the willingness to help increases dramatically if you also do a little homework on your own. For example, a quick look at United's web page (www.united.com) under Mileage Plus would have answered your last question.
