Hi all,
While reading some of the threads, I saw people talking about different airline fare classes. While I think B stands for business class, I have no idea what do others such as V, Y mean. Is there a thread that I can learn the meanings and how to know what class I'm getting when I book an airline ticket? Right now, my understanding of these classes is very limited just to coach and business. Thank in advance for your help.

i did a google search for fare class or fare basis... and it comes to something like each airline has their own designation.. there are usually two or three that are first and then the rest are coach at some either full or discounted basis. since each airline is different, it's hard to say.

All airlines will have some different codes, but these are pretty general.

Y/B are full fare or refundable economy.
C/J are business class.
F/A are first fares.

There are a ton of others, but a wikipedia search can probably help you with them.

Aircraft typically have four or fewer classes of seats: First, Business, Premium and Economy(Coach). Airlines, however, publish many different fares for the same physical seats based on restrictions such as advance purchase, Saturday night stay, changeable, refundable etc most of which are designed to separate business travellers (who are assumed to require more flexibility) from leisure travellers.

Typically the physical seats and the highest unrestricted full fares are designated with these codes:

F = First Class, J = Business Class, and Y = Economy/Coach.

There is some consistency in the use of other letters used to designate other "fare buckets", but it is best to verify the definition used by each carrier. "B" for example, is usually a high priced Economy class fare, not business class, while "C" and "D" are often business class fares.
