I agree, for the most part, with the assumption that return on investment is more important than the miles. But there are some exceptions. It really depends on just how bad you need the miles. I recently needed several thousand miles quickly. I purchased $45,000.00 in Savings bonds which I will cash in prematurely, thus forfeiting considerable interest. But to me, it was worth it to get the miles quickly. Just my two cents worth.
