Can Skymiles be changed to anything else?

I have a few Delta Skymiles. Can they be changed to anything else? I know they won't convert to any other airlines FF program. I've been trying to find a way to use them to get to Paris next spring, but the non-availability of award seats has me stymied. I've even looked into buying an economy class ticket and using the miles to upgrade, but the cheapest ticket for which that can be done is over $2000, and I have no intention of paying that much when a Y ticket from the midwest to Paris is running about $800-900.

I'm beginning to think that my Skymiles and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee. If they won't get me to Paris (which seems likely), is there anything else I can do with them? Rent a car? Stay in a classy hotel? Get free ballroom dance lessons?

Short of gifting or donating the miles, it looks as if the magazines are the only other option. (At least, that's the only other thing I see on delta.com.)

Celia, have U called DL? CSRs can see partner award availability which the pitiful delta.com does not show! Air France, KLM, Continental, NW are the most relevant partners.
Where RU flying from? Also, do U know that U can make Paris a Stopover (2ndary destination en route to or from another European city? Where else would U also want to go ?
BTW, it takes more than a few Skymiles: 50K for Y, or 90K for J.

I already subscribe to The Economist, so that's out. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have called DL, but the rep I talked to didn't mention partner airlines. I will check that out. (Although looking on the web, I didn't see anything obvious.)

I'm flying from Illinois. The two closest airports are Champaign, CMI (where I live) and Bloomington, BMI. Delta flies a shuttle from BMI to its ATL hub and I think also to Cincinnati, but I don't know where else they fly from BMI. I got these miles when Delta briefly flew out of Champaign, but they didn't stay long. That's why I have so few miles; I will have to supplement them from some Amex Membership Rewards.

NW/ BMI--DTW--CDG or AMS; PIA--MSP--CDG or AMS.
AF/ ORD--CDG.
DL to ATL then AF to CDG.

call and ask about skyteam and partner airline availability

if you live at CMI, then fly NW CMI-DTW, and then something out of there

AF
CO
KLM
NW

Delta to US not out of the question

Hang on to the Delta miles and after the merger is pushed down everyones throat they will most likely be converted in some way to Dividend Miles then take your trip on US.

i think some of the skyteam partners are considerably better than US.

and IF the merger happens, its not going to be anytime soon...

Since everyone and their brother wants to fly to Paris, you might try Delta to Nice and train it up to the City of Light.
