You'll be able to find lots of information about SWUs in the United forum. SWUs are gifted to UA's top travelers (those who travel in excess of 100,000 miles/year) annually when our credentials for the new year are received. I believe that USAir might use the same terminology as well; you can check that airline forum, too.

Some folks on Flyertalk do not realize this, but there are other airlines besides United (
), and some of those other airlines issue (or recently issued) "SWU" certificates, such as US and Delta.

Personally I consider SWU to be more of a generic term to also include AA VIPOW's which act like other airline's SWU's.
