I have to agree with most people that the treads about miles without flying need to stay in the Buzz. The only airline board I read is AF since that is where my status is. AF receives a post about every other day. So most of the time I am in FT Community, Mileage Run, and I used to spend a lot of time in Travel Talk but there are so many places to check now.
Without the old Buzz I would not have known about the Hilton fast track to Gold 50,000 points (my first post), NW 10,000 miles, Baht Run (I haven't done but great thread), and many others. There is other examples but I just can't think of them. I started going to NW from time to time during the NW promo but without reading about it in the Buzz I would have never entered NW and never known about it. The first 3 Miles Buzz topics at this moment are "Air travelers fear loss of status," "Airrivals Lounges - differences in entry requirements compared to departure lounges?," "How much more would/do you spend to fly your favorite mileage earning airline?." In my book, and this is just me, none of those are buzz topics. When I go to the Buzz I want to read about the hottest new promotion. Was it ever considered that Omni could be listed first. New people could then post their irrelevant topics in the first forum which would be Omni. And I am not saying the above topics are Omni, they are just not buzz to me. ------------------ The world is a book, and for those who do not travel, read only a page. -Saint Augustine |
So BUZZ should perhaps be restricted to include only the hottest new promo's? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Or is perhaps a "HOTLINKS TO HOT MILES PROMO" thread even more desirable for everyone? Just asking! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Hey, this thread clearly does not belong in MilesBuzz!!!!!
I call on the moderators to lock it and move the contents to Hey Randy, In The News or China Southern Airlines as they may deem appropriate. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
"Hey Randy!" On this board? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I'm still trying to find the thread by or contributed to by NJDavid where the original purpose of TheBuzz was laid out. But IIRC, it's pretty much what ChanelCinq summarizes below: the hottest new promotions.
Discussions about lounges and such belong in a general forum (but not OMNI, IMO). Unfortunately, the old General TravelTalk forum is now its own board and is not easily accessed by the community or the moderators. I'm not sure what the solution is. <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by ChanelCinq: The first 3 Miles Buzz topics at this moment are "Air travelers fear loss of status," "Airrivals Lounges - differences in entry requirements compared to departure lounges?," "How much more would/do you spend to fly your favorite mileage earning airline?." I think it's difficult to categorize what's "buzzworthy." You certainly could say a topic such as Baht run belongs on UA, and there would be some truth to that, but you could also make the argument that while the Baht run's specific to UA, MileagePlus, and Star, it's interesting enough to enough people that don't normally read UA that it belongs on Buzz, given the number of posts it's generated.
I think Buzz should remain fairly general in nature. Let topics that are not of enough general interest die because of lack of interest. The one exception I would make to that would that if someone was new to FlyerTalk and confused about where to post something, and posted in Buzz just because "it's at the top," I would move the thread immediately if I were moderating. In general, I think newbies post off topic way more than people who have been part of the scene here for a while, it's certainly not malicious on their part, and they might even appreciate a little direction about how to use the board appropriately when they start out. With the reorganization of the boards, there also seems to be some confusion about where to post General Travel Talk questions; I suspect this will decrease over time. By the way, as justification for my argument that topics of general interest should remain in Buzz, I never would have noticed the US Airways 500 miles for survey topic had it not been discussed here. Just so happens that I need activity in my US account to avoid having the miles expire 8 or 9 months down the road, so that post was most welcome. |
I hope everyone did not get the wrong idea. I was not stating that the 3 topics should be placed in Omni but I am not quite sure they should all be placed in Travel Talk.
I hate to suggest adding another forum but perhaps changing Miles Buzz to Miles Talk and creating a new forum for what was the Buzz. I still think that moving Omni to the top is a good idea. Many new people post for the first time in Buzz and I think part of that is it is the first topic on the board. ------------------ The world is a book, and for those who do not travel, read only a page. -Saint Augustine |
ChanelCinq ... got a better idea than Omni. You say Air France Forum only gets a new post every few days. And it DOES start with the letter "A" ........... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I kind of like PlaneBusiness' way of putting it: This Week We Are Talking About...

Thanks geordie6 but AF is really not all that important to me. If I were really into AF I would probably like the alphabetical idea. I am moving my status to UA next year so reverse alphabetical?
No, FT Community is still my favorite and Travel Talk (or Travel Buzz, what ever the new name is). ------------------ The world is a book, and for those who do not travel, read only a page. -Saint Augustine |
Well, here's todays active topics thusfar, and I have to admit it's tough to see how many of these truly belong in the BUZZ! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

geordie6, as much as M1/M2 are willing to move threads to the TravelTalk area b/c of the restructuring of servers it's not possible at this time. Sit tight. The wizards are working on that feature <g>.
dgolds nails the MilesBuzz dilemma: <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">I think Buzz should remain fairly general in nature. FWIW, I _do_ think the following threads belong here:
Full Disclosure Forget Latin Pass - lets have a BAHT PASS run Is there a programm that gives base miles on hotel, rentals Full Disclosure What is BUZZworthy? ...among others. |
Essxjay .. any hidden subtle undertones in DOUBLY highlighting the "FULL DISCLOSURE OF MODERATORS" thread as being pertinent here? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
