Anyone use CANPASS?

I go back and forth to Toronto quite a bit, usually by car. I signed up for CANPASS because it can be used at land border crossings, not just at airports. Anyone have any experience with this system? Input from all is welcome, but I'm especially interested in hearing from US citizens, so I have a better understanding of how it works in my case. Thanks!

Try asking this in the AC forum. Much more relevant and more likely to get responses.

Airport Canpass and Land Canpass are two related programs, but you do have to apply for them individually. Airport Canpass is a bit like the US INSPASS in that you're given an ID card and it uses biometrics to identify you.

You can usually apply at any Canadian Airport set up to use Canpass. According to the Canpass website, Vancouver appears to be the only airport that has it, but that may be outdated.

Unlike INSPASS, the card is not issued immediately (or at least it wasn't when I got mine), but mailed on to you later.

Now all this said, the last time I traveled the Canpass machines were shut down until further notice as a security measure. According the their website, they're still down.

For more info, try the Canpass website.
