A Vegas Flyertalk convention???

I do NOT want to take away from the Party of the century being put together by PremEx, tropical Flyer and Rudi or the Boston mini get together formed by the great Baobab.

But how would you guys like to look ahead, way ahead to a second annual FlyerTalk party convetnion in Vegas for 2000.

There are some of us like myself who would need little convincing to go to Vegas (for me it's just getting a little mad money and the time off from my boss)

But this is something to think about.

Or if you can't wait... pick another date.

Fall, 2000 might be great. Not as hot and crowded.

With the U-A airfare sale now on... I'm very tempted to go in late April this year!!!
And visit my good friends Sheba and the other great CATS of the Mirage. CATMAN

OMNI for NJ David: I'm trying to get my boss to take me to NAB in April.

I think my friend HOlly is going. But she's a manager/executive producer.

And my place needs someone to write the news while everyone's awya. But who knows? CATMAN

You guys are going to NAB?----urrrrggghhh!!
Tough call there for me. Here at my studio we get our choice between NAB or SIGGRAPH. Everything else we have to foot ourselves.
An FT mini-con at LAS would be very tempting for me....

So who is going to spring for a second sit on the way back to carry all our winnings, or at the very least all the extra weight we gain from the buffet...

Casinos should give frequent flyer miles to lure people to their casino. I'd play at a casino with frequent flyer points in addition to cash.

What a fabulous idea!

Vegas already has a Magic Castle, a Hawaii based casino with a wave machine in the pool, a NY skyline replica, an Eifel Tower, etc, etc.

Someone should create an "airport/avaition" casino. Wiatresses dressed as FAs, reclining seats at the slots (quarters have coach, dollars have business class, and high value slots with first class seats) with seat belts, video poker in armrest screens, all the table games run by captians laid-out like the okd 747 lounges...we're on to something here.....

NFD: Was that "were onto something" or "were on something"?

But it's one of the funniest ideas I have heard in a long-time. Don't give any more away, Richard Branson may be taking notes!

The toilets could be a problem though, for authenticiy, you would have to have only two toilets for every 200 clients.

And what about FA's rushing 'round with trolleys bashing into your elbows and heels?

NJDavid and Merry: I like it! The possibilities are simply endless. For the menu, they could have recipes based on classic airplane fare.

Let's see..."Mustard Pretzels a l'Orange" or, maybe, "Trail Mix au gratin."

The buffet is all you can eat of either, a pasta vegatable medly, beef wellington, or stuffed caper.

But, oh I'm sorry, we're all out of the one you want, please pick again.

I'm with Merry, but I want the toilets to be authentically cramped and have a light-up "occupado" sign. I also want the slots to be 'silent' with a "dollar slot" for the flush. That way, if one doesn't win,....well, you get the drift...and so on.

I haven't been on Virgin in over two years except for the horrible Virgin Express to Brussels (I thought it was Sabena flight). Anyway, from what I have heard Branson has what sounds like the funship plane. Perhaps, Rudi could speak to what I have heard about a Swiss airline having gambling on board...

NJD: A Frequent Flyer Casino sounds great. We could have luggage roulete or maybe your carryon is regulation or not, Blackjack award redemption (of course our odds against the house are probably better than in real life), and slot machine service.

ME=OW!!! We went from FlyerTalk convention planning to planning our own Flyer-Themed Casino.

FYI: anyone still interested in a Vegas convention for 2000??? I can't go to NAB, have to fill in for people but plan to go before or afterwards myself!!!

IT seems that there are a lot of FlyerTalkers who really like Vegas.

I think an airport/airline themed casino would be terrific. The slot machines can give out frequent flyer miles and the tables
points towards upgrades!!!

I think the bathrooms need to be a little bigger for us guys who make more than oen trip to the buffets (and the TWO Ruth's Chris Steakhouses on either side of town!!!)

Maybe if one of us wins PowerBall or Megabucks we can buy one of the losing properties on teh strip and convert to it
OUR casino!!!

The rooms could have sleeper seats for beds and phones built into the wall.

The elite floors could be names for great airlines of past (Pan Am, People's Express, Eastern)

We also could have the honorary Sir Freddie Laker wing for the high rollers.

I'm having fun with this!!!

Mirage has The Big CATS w those two humans and MGM has SFX or that David Cassidy show. We need a top line act to draw the visitors in to our CLUB ROOM... like CATWOMAN Michelle Pfeffer who can sing or Meg Ryan just standing there and just being MEG!!

NOW a name for our casino... let me think..

Flyer-Land! OR Flyer-Flyer! or The Grand Traveler. Or Le Resort Du Traveler.

(Or... in my wildest dreams: CAT-LAND!!!)
