kind of depends on the amount of the "small amounts". The average trade according to their financial's is 14,019. For the life of me i can't imagine anyone trading that amount of miles or points in a program to end up with 3,000 miles in another program when it's so much easier to use the knowledge of our members on FT and go up not down. There's many programs with free tickets at just 15,000 miles. and it is so easy to earn an additional 10,000 miles in any program to get to the 25,000-mile level.
I always get stuck on the average trade statistic, that's a huge number of miles to assume have no value.
And while some programs don't have options to trade out of (NWA and DL). With NWA you can redeem 20,000 miles (just 5K more than the current average trade on points.com and add $294 and get a free trans-Atlantic flight. Heck, most of us can add 5,000 miles to our NWA account in less than 3 minutes if we had to. Again, using the knowledge of the members on FT can make it a better idea to move the miles up than move them down with a trade.
Of course if you only have 834 miles, well, that's a whole different ball game other than 12 years of Sports Illustrated for Kids!!!
