No shoes at security, should we have carpet?

What happens if your shoes test positive for residue? Do they confiscate them? Deny you boarding? The incident at SFO last week where the passenger had "bomb making residue" was actually a case of a trace of lawn fertilizer on the bottom of the shoes. Aurthorities said probably picked up by walking across a newly fertilized lawn. If you are in your bare feet and pick that up on your feet, do they take your feet?

In Israel, they know the weight of different electronics (by make and model number). They can weigh it and know if the weight is different from what it's suppose to be
