<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">I've been visiting Flyertalk and WebFlyer for many years now. I remember when there were so few people visiting the discussion boards that it was only necessary to check for activity once a month or so....really!</font>
And yet we checked it every day anyway

I read about it in the magazine. Hard (depressing?) to believe that the four year anniversary of my first post is coming 5/13...

I was invited to the Seattle-Do in November by my husband (jwright). I had no idea what I was walking into other than the fact that there would be a lot of FFs there. It seemed harmless enough.

I met kokonutz, chexfan, and villageidiot (among others) that night but I wasn't scared away.

I went home that evening (2am) and promptly logged in for the first time.

Hi Friends! At least I feel like I have friends and kindred spirits here on Flyer Talk. I've been lurking and learning for probably over a year now. I remember getting information about the Freddies in some of my monthly summaries with references to web flyer. I should have been participating before now (I check the board every day!)but maybe I'm shy.....
Thanks to you all, I hope I can contribute from here forward.

I msotly international travel. I was in Vacouver on my way to HK and there was a girl there that was going on a mileage run. She explained what it was and suggested the site. After I came back from China, I check every single day and I believe it is one of the most helpful sites regarding my traveling.

I searched google.com for the word RWSTAR3 and ended up on:

http://www.informationlab.com/rtw.htm

From there I went to FT, and it has been a been a LOT of fun ever since!!!

I think I found this site through Web Flyer. Heck if I know how I found that. At first, it was just a few people who seemed to know each other very well so one initially felt like an outsider but now it's just a huge friendly group.

I had been lurking in rec.travel.air for several years when I came upon a post that alluded to this web site. Given that the aforementioned newsgroup can often resemble Omni on one of its nastier days, this discovery was a blessing and a revelation. Oh, I guess I shouldn't use words like that since FlyerTalk no longer assigns monikers such as "FT Evangelist."

That was nearly two years ago and within a week of my discovery, I found myself meeting and greeting 11 other FlyerTalk folk at Higgins Cafe in Portland:

I have no idea ... must have been around late 1997/early 1998 ... heck, I've been on so long Flyertalk doesn't even remember how long (see "Registered:" field in profile to left, old timers do not have a date, it was lost at some point a few years ago).

That's sure being generous to rec.travel.air where the favorite sport is Sheryl bashing

I do remember lurking for several months and watching the development of the PiP. Although I have learned quite a bit about mileage programs for sure my most pleasant and unexpected gain is having met kindred souls who have become the balm/bane* of my obsession.

And my biggest regret is that I waited and watched the PiP happening and did not participate.

As great as the FlyerTalk events I've been to over the last few years have been, I'm not sure anything could ever match the PiP ... good times ... good times.

Well, Rudi of course. I think they built the site round him. Also Merry is still somewhat active. Those two had hundreds of posts when I showed up.

Catman was also active then, as was kokonutz under a different name. baobab still posts occasionally (wish she'd do it more often). There are others, as well.

(Edited to correct coding.)

I found the site last April in the early morning hours while looking on webflyer. Saw flyertalk somewhere & lurked for a while. Joined FT in May 2001 & my only status was US Silver. Since then, I went to Europe 4 times last year (3 times post Sept. 11).Now US Chairman's & UA Prem Executive. Registered for all kinds of bonuses, secured 2 business class award seats on QF (Rows 16A,B upper deck ) using 95K US miles each for Nov. 2002 travel. Even survived one SIN trip two weeks ago & will go again in 2 weeks! (actually SIN was quite easy for me considering the cost per mile is quite inexpensive!). Always having a nice time on FT & at FT events.

One month ago when I became an EXP on AA I was doing a search on Google for AA upgrade certificates and Flyertalk popped up. Since then I'm hooked and my wife thinks I'm nuts (she's right by the way).

I believe it was a link from Webflyer or the Frequentflier Crier. Since then I also feel quite addicted to it all. I find myself waking up in the middle of the night just to see if there have been new posting on some of the threads. My friends and family just don't get it. I'm not sure I do either.
