Advice: Moving between programs

My husband is a platinum NWA flyer and I am gold. We have recently moved from MSP to FLL where NWA has limited presence. We'd like to switch our loyalty to another airline with more options for us--possibly Delta or Continental both of which are Sky team partners to NWA. Does anyone know of any program to transfer status between airlines or must we start all over to build up our status for earning miles?

You can't move from CO to NWA due to their relationship; I tried! I assume the reverse is true as well.
