Turbulence and various seating areas in a plane.

Got lucky and received an upgrade to first class on a Thai Airways 747, it was my first time in the very front of a 747. Caught some turbulence and felt I was shaken around quite a bit.

Got to wondering, are there areas of the plane that are affected more by turbulence than other seating areas?

The seats adjacent to the wings would encounter less turbulence in certain situations where changes in pitch (nose up or down) are involved. When the pitch of the aircraft changes, the wings are like a fulcrum of a see-saw, with the nose and tail moving the most and the wings the least.

Closer to the center of gravity will be more calm (probably near the wings). Far forward and far aft will move more.

The wings tend to absorb turbulence better than either end. The smoothest ride is usually overwing, the most turbulent in the nose or tail.
