BARGAIN-HUNTERS LIVE FOR DEAD WEEK
BARGAIN-HUNTERS LIVE FOR DEAD WEEK
Travel Tightwad Christopher Elliott reports that the week after
New Year's offers some of the most irrestible deals of the season.
If you follow his advice, you'll wait until the last minute and
take advantage of a travel buyer's market that can't be beat.

I'm just not buying it ... I'd heard a lot of hype about "dead week", tried really, really hard, and still came up empty-handed. On the other hand, I did snag some great deals for later in the month.

What I have noticed in the past is that leisure travel is usually at its absolute lowest starting the Monday following the first Sunday after New Years. Travel up until that first Sunday will coincide with some holiday travel and be more expensive. This low demand usually continues for 2-4 weeks and slowly rebuids after that depending on destination.
