Let me second Yonatan's comments! I was able to use my System Wide Upgrade (SWU) from Philly to Madrid. No problems or hassles at all. I was even able to book the upgrade weeks in advance.
On this front, US Airways wins the game.

The systemwide upgrades (SWUs) that USAir has been providing to virtually all elite members over the past couple of years has been, hands down, one of the finest frequent flyer benefits doled out by any airline anywhere. As previous messages indicate, however, we are all on pins and needles waiting to see if SWUs will be sent out in 2002. The USAir website (last time I looked) conspicuously excluded SWUs from the list of elite benefits for 2002 at any level. If they aren't sent out this year, the airline that is currently in 2nd place in this category moves up to number one, and USAir drops down into the great pile of airlines with mediocre elite benefits.
